however, you don't just cut into into segments

first slice down slightly off centre, cutting of a slice which is curved on one side and flat on the other and circular

then cut two pieces of either side of the middle and then the remaining part.

the very middle should be discarded.

the pieces can then be eaten without excess pith getting in your mouth and diluting the orangy goodness
