It's probably because
people see vans as big, heavy and slow-moving. If you're over-taking them they'd suddenly think, 'I'm obviously not going fast enough. Carruthers! We need more kittens in the furnace immediately.'

this was a Renault Kangoo, not a Luton.
I was minding my own business, doing about 70mph in it. It's not like I was fannying about, nor haring on like a delivery man in a Merc Sprinter.

Everybody knows that the real speed limit is 90.
