They're tough little buggersAlmost armour-plated. I once spent a very hot afternoon chasing one of the little sods that had been clipped by a car, and they can go a lot faster on 3 legs than I can on 2.
Which is why rifles were invented.
And yes, the males have fangs/tusks, which look quite spooky.
