@rubberduckhugely late on this one I know, but I've got to head off and buy the Galant TGB has convinced me to get :P
The B5 passat does share a basic floorpan with the A6, cos until the 2002 A4 update the A4 ran on the same basic floorpan as the A6, but with the A6 slightly stretched. The Passat is def bigger than the old A4, at least inside and in boot space, couldn't tell you on wheelbase.
