Dreams are a product of dimethyltriptamine (DMT) which is produced by your pineal gland. DMT is the most powerful hallucinogen in the world. That's why dreams are so abstract. They (sometimes) have a slight meaning, but the DMT makes the dreams so obtuse that the meaning is difficult to see. This is also an explanation to "near death" experiences and one's "life flashing before one's eyes". It's your pineal gland producing more DMT (like your adreaneal gland producing too much adrenaline).
If your pineal gland can't produce enough DMT to cause dreaming, then one stand's the risk of (and I'm blinding you with science here) "going mental". Dreaming is an important mechanism of releasing one's pressure, in this case, mental pressure.
Essentially. dreaming is one big drug trip.

N.B: for anyone who will meet me on Thursday, I'm not normally this boring, I promise!
*Edit*
Thanks for all your support, but I'll muddle through. My car journalism job will bring a little money in. I might have to start selling my body!
