@Edmund
I'm a bit of a (okay, a lot of a) car nut, but I've never understood people who worship their cars either.
I like my car, and I don't mind paying for the privilege of having a nice supercharged V8 under the bonnet, but I can't understand the people who'll quite happily spend thousands of pounds on modifying and upgrading their car, cleaning it with OCD-like tendencies every day (mine get washed when I can't see out of the windows any more), and probably having sex with the exhaust pipe every night.
It's a tool for travelling. Nothing more. It's OK in my opinion to get the car you want, but it's mightily sad when you see the obsessive-types, or those running a car they can't afford.
