Calm down, take a deep breath....
Just a way of maintaining 'your' brand's perceived quality against the opposition.
Take the most 'aspirational' brand in the group, for example the defunct Premier Automotive Group, and call it a 'posh whatever', inserting the name of the least 'desirable' brand.
Ta-daa!
Results in Aston owners glaring at the Sierra switchgear (OK that goes back a bit), Merc owners blushing at Smart/Chrysler/Mitsubishi. Lexus owners opening the bonnet and realising that every component is marked 'Toyota', and so forth. Great fun.
Mind you, Jag owners seem particularly susceptible.......:)
Quite fancy an XJ-R myself, if I could find a minter, and had any money.
