Gaelic and Welsh are related, but from different roots. Welsh is a Brythonic language whose cousins include Manx, Cornish and Breton (Brittany) whilst Gaelic is Goidelic and includes Irish and Scots Gaelic.

Both Celtic, but distinct. Sort of like Italian and Portuguese.
