The reason the M6 is busyis that the alternatives are even worse :)
There's cheeky little diversions you can make in some areas when there's localised holdups. E.g for problems near Manchester, drop onto the A50 and pop back out on the M6 at Stoke, but in most instances you're best off sitting it out.
