You should have stood up, and taken a bow to the kids.
It's not just job centres who have central call centres, by the way. I phoned a certain bank the other day (clue - it has monks living in it) and the phone was answered by an Indian woman. I asked if she'd put me through to the Dundee branch, as I wanted to speak to someone there to make an appointment.
"Certainly, sir", came the reply. I heard computer keys being pressed.
*tap tap tap*
Hmm. This is taking longer than it should.
*tap tap tap*
"Sorry sir, can you just confirm the spelling? Is it D-A-N-D-I?"
I just laughed. I suppose that's how you would spell it in India!
Eventually I gave up and walked down to the branch to make the appointment.
