DiTHe may just be playing a character, in so much that, he's playing up to being a git to get a reaction out of people. So it IS about who's winning. He's getting the reaction he wants out of people.
I think it was Andy Kaufman who said "I don't care if people like me or dislike me, as long as I get a reaction."
Remember, DiT, in every pantomime, you need a villain....
He's harmless.
