I've had three 1st place posts nowand a smattering of best-of posts in the top ten, but I'm not really sure exactly what makes them popular. I just try to write from personal experience mostly, so perhaps I lead an amusing life? :-)
Also, Star Wars is a popular theme. And 'Kaizer Soze' moments, where you lead the reader up the garden path then reveal that you've been hoaxing them all along.
The ones I click on personally usually have at least one of the following ingredients: pathos, b3ta humour, excellent swearing or an unexpected punchline.
EDIT: I fucking hate click-begging though. If it's worth a click, you'll get one, have no fear.
