Update:"Keeps phoning me up to ask why their PC is being funny.
I asked what kinda funny, and they said that when they type stuff, it puts random extra letters into it.

So, it turns out that my explanation of the problem as "The motherboard being possessed by the ghost of a sparrow that got trapped in the ceiling tiles" was, in fact incorrect.
Turns out the keyboard was fucked, swapped it for another, all good now.
