MiasmaThat sounds a lot like the setup we used to have. One time the gigantic UPS gave a large pop noise, then promptly died.
The cleaner quickly said "it wasn't me!", in stark contrast to the pop happening the very second he turned on the vacuum cleaner, which was plugged into a socket that clearly said "Computer use ONLY!".
