Noise cancelling headphonesare pretty good. Mine are PlaneQuiet NC6, which are OK. They cost about £40, but look like the Bose £250 ones and are comfortable to wear for long periods. They don't sound particularly nice admittedly, but they are fine for the environment I use them in, which is inherently noisy.
Sennheiser do a similar pair for similar money, which probably sound a lot better.
