2 things...One: I thought you meant he had a problem of falling asleep in the classes, so expected the solution to be a pair of novelty glasses with pretend eyes on them, a la Homer Simpson.
Two: it would only take one crude, slappy wake up for me to introduce the machine to Mr Smashy Hammer.
However, it's something that would amuse me if I were to see it in action, on someone who wasn't me! I like the idea.
