Put acomplaint into the ombusdsman in any case - it'll cost them 270 quid either way then.
That'll teach 'em for trying to hold on to your money for the interest as long as possible.
Then sue them for the lost interest you could have gained by moving the money to a country where they didn't allow the banks to run roughshod all over us.
Trust me - you'd win.
