I suspectthat the weird gene is on the part of the Europeans- Native Americans can't process alcohol well either, and I would suspect that Africans and Australian aborigines have the same problem.
Occidentals have had fermented products as a part of our cultures for so long that we've adapted to it physically. Orientals and aborigines haven't.
On the other hand Native Americans can handle peyote pretty well- they don't trip their balls off the way we do.
