Well a good old fashionedsurprise party with all the trimmings is always good.
But you know him better than us - it's the thoughfulness rather than the scale which is important, I think. If there's something he's wanted for years and not been able to find, or something he's wanted to do - no matter how inexpensive or trivial it might seem to anyone else - the amount of thought and effort you put into manifesting it for him will be the thing he remembers most.
