Death of a 300ZX redux
It appears that the car didn't blow its engine after all. On talking to some friends and to the mechanic who used to work on that car all the time, it looks like what happened was that the turbo blew its seals and clogged the engine with oil and blocked its airflow while spewing oil everywhere.

Said mechanic had a spare turbo for that car, as it happens, and will sell it to me cheaply.

Richard says he and I can install it pretty painlessly. It's six bolts and a few hoses.

And then I'm gonna light up some tires.

Excellent!
Well, as excellent as blown seals can be. It's still much better than a borked engine.

Better than clubbed seals.
Marginally.

Better than marged seals

Erm.....because margarine is better for you than butter. But I like butter - not in a Last Tango in Paris way, you understand.

Hmm....hot buttered toast.....

Lucky
Thats a spot of luck Loon, but as its a twin turbo, you need to make sure the seals on the other unit are changed as well.

Sort the disks, best to change the pads as thats fairly cheap and in this car you REALLY want to be sure you can stop!, give it an oil and filters change, top up the rest of the fluids and make sure the tyres are good

And lo, you have a supercar!

Run it for a year then sell it on when the first big bill comes in.

Have fun !!!

Blew a seal? No, just ate some vanilla ice cream...
New Years Day morning will likely be spent under the hood of this car, verifying that that's all it is- and if that's the case, I'll get the mechanic to ship that turbo ASAP.

I really, REALLY need to resurrect this car. I was intending to get plates that said PRIAPUS, but now I'm thinking they should say LAZARUS...
