This is a question Off Topic

Are you a QOTWer? Do you want to start a thread that isn't a direct answer to the current QOTW? Then this place, gentle poster, is your friend.

Here it is:

***********************************************
EDITED to remove the 'rules' bits, leaving mostly useful information for new posters
***********************************************

The questions board is the wordiest bit of b3ta. If you want to write something, this is probably the place to do it.

*****EDITED OUT******
The Rules in brief:

Don't be a cunt.

-------------------------------------------------

The Rules in more detail:

*****EDITED OUT******

Before you click 'post this message', ask yourself if your entry is:

* interesting?
* moving?
* amusing?
* topical?

If it's none of these things, think twice before posting. If it's any of these things, we love you. If you've got an entertaining story, we want to read it.

*****EDITED***** * Here's a spell-checker.

* Use NSFW. If you link to anything that might be a problem if your boss glimpsed it, mark it clearly as NSFW (Not Safe For Work).

* Stay on-topic (unless in Off Topic)

* Vote! If you like a post, click 'I like this' (you need to be logged in). The posts with the most votes go on the 'Best' page on Thursday when the question closes.

*****EDITED OUT******
* If you don't like a post, say nothing. Constructive criticism is welcome, but this is not the place to insult another member's writing.
*****EDITED OUT******

*****EDITED***** * Do not post or link to porn. Failure to comply with this may result in a ban.

* If you really don't like a particular poster, the 'Ignore' link will block all posts from that person. You can manage your block list or keep track of member activity with the 'b3ta friends' feature.

FAQ

When are the new questions set up?

There is a new question set up every week, on a Thursday.

Can I answer one of the old questions?

Sorry, but once the question is closed, no more answers can be added. You can always post your answer on the Off Topic board though.

What does it mean when someone replies to my post with a *click*?

It's b3ta slang for "I enjoyed that so I clicked on the 'I like this!' link". Consider it a compliment!

I have a great idea for a question... what now?

You can submit your suggestion here.

Can I view posts by popularity before the question closes, like on the main board, the talk board and the links board?

Currently, no. This feature has been suggested several times so hopefully it will be implemented soon. New feature requests can be posted here.

I want to get on the 'Best' page! Which posts tend to get the most votes?

Read some of the 'Previous question archive' answers to see the kind of material that has received the most votes in the past. As a general rule, well-written material will do well. If a post has a theme with universal appeal, whatever the subject, it will probably earn a place on the 'Best' board.

Will posting here get me in the newsletter?

The Magic Donkey scans the 'Best' page looking for interesting stories. Short posts stand a better chance of being in the newsletter itself, but longer stories sometimes get linked too.

For Off Topic:

What are these 'Home Sweet Home' posts all about?

'Home Sweet Home' was created so the regular QOTW posters could chat in one place. It uses a single threaded layout, unlike the talk board. New posters are always welcome, so please drop in any time and say hi.

What is the board etiquette?

*****EDITED*****: It's good manners to put long posts in the reply to your /Off Topic post to make the main board easy to navigate, but that's about it.
