1991This happened to me in 91 at the Natwest. Opened up a student account. Got a nastygram a few weeks later asking me to pop in and explain the reason for the £27,000 overdraft.
Now I'm good, but not that good. I did question them in that they allowed me to "spend" that.
As it turned out, they recycled account numbers and ended up debiting an old cheque that must have surfaced at the same time.
Incompetence basically. What did you think the answer might be!
