Tranny
Kaol mentioned a tranny a few minutes back. That's the word my gran used to use for a transistor radio. She would be most confused by modern parlance.

And someone (may have been rachelswipe?) once said on here that their dad/grandad/whatever called motorway service stations trannies. Derived from transport cafes, I suppose. But it still makes me chuckle.
