Havent seen one in ages, have to check one of the indian shops in southall
there was a thing, which was a square of tinplate, wrapped over a 3/8 wire frame and an expanded mesh on top. heat on gas Flame to dull red, toast on and turn, same with an open fire.
Also works with an oxy propane burner in a vice.

My best popup died, the case just started to crack, it was a swan, and had two of those glass tubes with a spiral element in and two curved reflectors, perfect even toast. 19 years what a crap bit of kit.

The modern update of the classic russell hobbs does perfect even toast , but not big slices.

if you can find a toaster with shiny reflectors as above buy it, I bought a 15quid swan in asda that toasted only bands near the heating wires, like cossi marks on your tan. bought the one above just mentioned, now 6yrs old.
