If you must eat ready meals (i.e. you can't cook), the M&S healthy range tastes good and is generally low fat/calorie.
Best thing though, exercise more, eat less, cook from scratch with fresh ingredients.
Often people mistake hunger for thirst, instead of a snack, have a glass of water and wait 10 mins, if you still need to snack, have an apple.
Try not to think of "being on a diet", try to think of eating better and exercising more as a lifestyle change. It's not instant, but keep with it and the weight will come off.
[edit] Oh yeah, portion size is key, don't feel you have to finish everything on your plate (use smaller plates if you need to), try to stop eating when you're not hungry anymore, *not* when you're full to bursting.
