I tend to use smallish knives
and go for precision rather than force ;-)

although saying that, I do have a japanese cleaver that would easily take someone's head off.

Depends what you are going for though. I doubt most people, and particularly small US TV stations, are equipped for the "one blow" style beheading, which leads me to think that he probably used some kind of knife in a sawing action. A lot of work.

A fire axe would do the job though. that would've been his best bet.
