it's from a series of booksadmittedly kids books, by Garth Nix, about necromancers and stuff.
Magic is done using these symbols.
mainly though, I just like the look of them. although there is some small element of meaning.
edit: didn't make it clear that the first thing is what I want to get done. potentially followed by a large number of similar ones.
