I know what you meanI've never had a problem with axle stands myself, but I still don't trust them for some reason.
Maybe I'm being a bit overcautious, but when I'm working underneath the car on axle stands, I always leave the trolley jack pumped up under one side, and the shite scissor jack from the boot supporting the other side. If I'm feeling extra unlucky, I'll chock up underneath the sills with some wood too.
I've always been slightly nervy of ramps, ever since I saw one of my mate's ramps collapse due to a failed weld.
