is very underrated.
First off you need to learn how to "empty the mind" (always makes me think of Eddie Izzard, for some reason, and "ooh look, a squirrel").
Just get comfy, wait until your breathing slows down naturally and allow thoughts to come and go. Use your breath as an anchor - the rise and fall of your chest, or the feeling of the breath on the nostrils - whenever you realise your thoughts or feelings are occupying your consciousness, bring your awareness back to the breath and let the thoughts go. When a thought arises don't get involved, just observe it, acknowledge it and then let it go.
Do this every time you have a thought and eventually you'll be able to do it at will in daily life, not just when you're lying on the floor feeling cosmic.
When you've got the hang of that try yoganidra, a technique where you take your awareness through every part of your body. I love it, it makes you tingle in every cell and you feel like you're made of pure energy.
You can get spoken guides to take you through it and other meditation exercises too.
I don't know why I don't meditate as much as I used to... it used to make a huge difference to my life. Well I've just talked myself into doing it more often again.
