I've done it.
And so has my fella.

Without wishing to get into a debate about it (I've been vegetarian all of my life and heard every argument for and against...), I make no claims of right or wrong, I just made a decision I hoped was the best in the circumstances.
A car in front of me ran over a rabbit. It thrashed about and looked as though it wasn't going to make a recovery. I had a split second to decide what to do, and I chose to run it over. It was the first time I have ever deliberately killed any creature. The thump as I did so still sickens me now, but I'd be able to bear even less the knowledge that it died a lingering painful death if I hadn't done it.

And on one journey with my fella we saw two two separate rabbits by the side of the road which had been struck and were still alive and twitching. He drove back and forth over them to make sure they were totally dead. Not pleasant. But it was genuine compassion.

We didn't do the kitten though.
