I'm not suggesting that I'm being demeaned. I do find it frustrating having to work closely with people who feel that making those kinds of comments are acceptable in the workplace. Especially when I don't feel the normal course of action is open to me (for reasons that I've partially alluded to).

In an ideal world I would just accept that I have my opinions, they have theirs and at the end of the day we're only colleagues. On a better than average day I can do that. Sometimes I fall short.

If it bothers you that much you could make an off-topic post about it. Or have a wank. On the basis of the evidence I have gathered I would recommend the wank.
