anything by Iain (M) Banks
All the Willard Price books
Just So Stories - Kipling (not Mr)
Jeeves and Wooster
The Sword of Truth books that someone mentioned are good, but they tail off in terms of quality as they go on, getting rather preachy, a bit stupid and with not enough violent action.
