Growing up, my father had servantsThis was most fortunate, as his mother could not cook AT ALL.
In later years they emigrated to Canada, without their staff, and she had to at least try.
Sample menu: unseasoned boiled mince in a soggy grey heap, accompanied by sweet jelly (as in child's party stuff) - with tinned mixed veg in it.
It's amazing the poor fellow made adulthood.
