The knowledge that I know nothing
According to Socrates, that is what all his beliefs hinged on - he was viewed to be so clever as he knew that he knew nothing.
However, the knowledge that I know nothing 47 hours before two very important exams is NOT good.
I wish the Theory of Prior Knowledge was correct- that we have complete and pure knowledge from birth, and all we need is the correct "midwife" to bring it into existence.
Then again, that would hinge upon the idea of the Immortal Soul, and if the soul is immortal, I'm a bit screwed.
Ah well. My own fault. But wouldn't you agree that there is a process of generation from one opposite to another? Like sleeping to waking, justice to injustice, life to death? In order to be asleep you must have once been awake, in order to be awake you must have been to sleep at SOME point.
Which leads into the whole issue of, to be dead you must once have been alive. So DOES THAT MEAN, that once you're alive, you must have once been dead?
Fuck Plato. Baldy cunt.

Christ
your post - although excellent - taxes the few working synapses I currently possess.

But to answer the question - yes, one was "dead" before being brought into existence via sperm / egg collision and fertilisation. Or if not dead, then in a state of potentiality; potentially there in the DNA of one's parents which fuses together in the act of creation.

However I advise you to work like stink for your exams and leave these issues until they are over. Good luck !

cheers
That argument is from the Phaedo, which is covered in my exam. Along with other such shit, like Pleasure and Pain being siamese twins - can't have one without the other etc etc etc.

Aside from the Meaning of LifeĀ®, I have to know:
-half a book of the Iliad in Greek, plus the otehr half in English
-what hte fuck happened to the French Monarchy
-what the fuck happened to the British Monarchy, the Commonwealth, and the Monarchy again
-why Catherine the Great liked to masturbate on horses.

So posting on here IS revision.
I guess.
Not.
Fuck.

Listen
I once walked into a final exam - my Finals for the end of a 3 year degree course in History - not knowing the dates of the English Civil War. For a paper on the English Civil War. And I still got a second.

You seem capable of creating rational comments and arguments. That's half the battle. Just write lots.

Excreta tauream cerebrum vincit. Or something like that.

Ha, that's impressive
And yes. I'll bear that in mind. Got my Latin translation on Tuesday, doesn't look like I'll ahve time to revise. Ah well.
