Present...Pedant!Tube drivers' salary, which you seem to be referring to, starts at £40k. Station managers are on about £35k, and the station staff (I think those that sell you tickets and stand at the barriers looking bored and waiting for something to do) start on £29k.
Which actually helps your argument. They are very well paid.
