I find myself agreeing with The Guardian today
I wonder if PJM will.

I do agree in principle...
...contrary to most people's perceptions, I am very much the environmentalist. I laud any scheme to help us be more socially and environmentally aware.

However, the biggest sin to me is the hijacking of the green movement by venture capitalists, anxious to "Carbon Trade" and most disgustingly, tax.

If the government doesn't want me to drive a particular car, then ban the sale of it. Fine. I can live with that. What I can't abide is the retrospective taxing of a purchase decision I might have made in 2001. I'm happy to recycle, but I want no microchips in my bin, nor do I want to face being taxed/fined/charged etc if my bin happens to be open by more than an inch.

I'm disgusted with the plethora of taxation that is waiting in the wings to be levied against our environmental sins, when the government passes legislation to rubber stamp the reduction of it's own investment in public transport and simultaneously encourages private businesses to hike fees to a captive market.

I'd happily take money from Trident to pay for better (and cheaper) public transport.

Now let the debate rage on.

You'd keep the same car for eight years?
Dear god man, have you no sense of throwaway culture? I'm still awaiting the Primarni car that'll last 3 weeks before all the windows cave in and the exhaust explodes.
