If they're truly a reputable breeder
and registered with the GCCF or the Maine Coon Cat Club then they should be willing to at least help. They obviously know more about common problems in the breed than you do, and if they sold you a kitten knowing it was below standard then you should consider reporting them to the MCCC.
Especially if it's congenital - it means one of her cats is carrying dodgy genes and shouldn't be bred from - or at least not paired with another carrier.

So, I would approach the breeder and see what they're willing to do. If they refuse to take any responsibility, report them so that other potential kitteh buyers know they might get fucked around. If they won't pay to get it sorted but will take the kitten back, best do it sooner rather than later. You don't want a poorly kitteh dying on you six months down the line when your daughter is *really* attached.
