So time for an update:nipped in to motor factors, got replacement plugs (CR9EH-9) for £4.84 each, not the £8 they are in Halfords.
35 minutes later fuel tank is back on, all hoses connected, battery charged, weeblaireau happily playing with a pile of nuts and bolts...started 1ST TIME!
and the weather's clearing up a treat.
so it looks like THIS afternoon may be THE afternoon.
