From the one who extended their part-time hours from two days a week to three day about a year ago – and has NEVER done the extra day – calling in sick each and ever Friday (but she gets paid for it anyway)

To the girl who took 3 months off with depression because she’d split up with her boyfriend. A boyfriend she’d only been seeing for about 6 weeks. Or you’ve got the girl who just doesn’t turn up. Doesn’t call, text e-mail anything, just swans in and out and gets away with it.

And then there is the blind girl, from a minority background who has to be escorted to a prayer room twice a day (you then wait outside and have to walk her back when she’s finished – well, not me, only a bird can guide her) she hasn’t completed a full week in work so far this year. Anything between one and five days every week this year have been taken off, despite all of this, she knows they won’t do anything about it because she’s already told them that if they do, she’ll claim she is the victim of discrimination. And, based on the fact she is seemingly ‘untouchable’ they take no action against anyone else either.

None of these people are in management positions, so it’s not like they are ‘above’ being managed.

Oh, as a complete aside, three of the team have 100% attendance records, but were marked down in their last appraisals because there was work uncompleted. They argument that they were down on headcount and that as a team, they have a total attendance record of less than 55%, this wasn’t, apparently, good enough.
