I couldn't be bothered to point out that a river is fairly well-constrained by it's banks.

ah, but freedom is like that too
and then you get a sudden deluge of airborne freedom droplets at which point freedom rises from its banks and fucks up your house.

This is true.
They were angling for a lift back too.
We politely declined.
They invited us to the pan-pipe concert that they were organising though.
