All BBC broadcasts operate on a smallish time delay (a few minutes)So they can bleep things out/dick about if things go wrong.
He clearly got someone on the inside to relay the numbers, likely over a phone, as soon as they came out. It's the media, therefore it's a hoax. Doesn't mean it's not a clever one...
