Trick
I think, its a relatively easy trick. My guess is split image. There are a few giveaways; the shaky camera/rushed approach to it. He didnt have to be all 'urgent', it was part of the schtick. Watch on Youtube and at 5m.10s the camera stops shaking. They cut the left hand side to a still, and someone adds the balls in as they are called. Cut to the live image again and hey presto. Theres enough time in there for the live cut before he moves over to take a look.
