What an amazing experience the fishing tournament was! I didn't do too badly, either!
Full explanation in reply - I'll try to keep it short.

and met the other anglers - most of whom I knew already. I paired up to fish with Erica, a girl from my fishing team. Out of 4 women in the contest, we were the only female team - the other two ladies paired up with guys.
Of course, we were getting shit from the guys about how we wouldn't make it till 7am, we'd get too cold etc...
We got out on the lake and got to our spot, and immediately we were getting bit. Pulled in a couple catfish. The next thing we knew it's 6.15am, we've both caught our limits and yeah it was cold but we were having FUN!!! We knew we probably didn't have the winning fish, but headed in for the 7am weigh-in.
When we got to the dock, we realised we were the only ones to limit out, but also saw 2 fish that we knew were the winners - one of them was a good friend of ours and he took away the prize "King Of The Cats" trophy, $1,000 and a new rod - totally happy for him.
Erica and I were also honored with new rods for being the only female team and only ones to limit out, and we got a special mention for staying out all night.
Ultimately, among the women, I placed 2nd (although it was a Master tournament so there was no "female" division), and overall came 15th out of 40!
It was a great time, and honestly, I felt honored fishing among some of the best anglers in SoCal - I even beat out one of the pros!

I have friends who are seriously into fishing, and I own a canoe. I can find out where to go for good fishing (in the rivers over here), and Virginia Beach is only a couple of hours away. And I know that they have fishing piers there...
