Alternatively, get it fixed.

The problem is probably to do with the flyback transformer, a dry joint or loose connection (given that a thump helps it). Television repair men are thin on the ground these days, but you should be able to find someone who'll put a dab of solder on the right place for you.

Anyway, a new LCD television just shows up all the shitty digital artefacts from the compression process. A CRT is much nicer to watch, IMHO.

but I want a bigger tv anyway. mine cost me £150 in the first place so has had a great innings.
