like your penis?

(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:01, Reply)
My put down was as on form as yours was Monty dear
Cack to say the least.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:04, Reply)
tell him his music taste is generic and middle of the road.
That'll piss him off.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:04, Reply)
Most of it doesn't seem to be though. I just don't get the Bowie hate

(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:17, Reply)
Funnily enough I love Jon Spencer
and have done since his first band Pussy Galore. Their 'Sugarshit Sharp' LP is a deranged classic.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:32, Reply)
So stop the Bowie hate and we'll get along just fine

I like Rebel Rebel
in fact I even own the 45 of it. But everything else he's ever done has been awful - and he ruined Raw Power by The Stooges with his spasticated mix. For that alone - let alone the video to 'Ashes to Ashes', he should be shot in the face.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:42, Reply)
I have ashes to ashes stuck in my head
it's driving me mental

I'd almost managed to get Echoes by Pink Floyd in there instead, but I've failed
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:44, Reply)
I'd rather have Aga-fucking-doo stuck in my head
that that mountain of pretentious mediocrity...
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:46, Reply)
which one?

(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:46, Reply)
Ashes to Ashes
Echoes is alright. In a slightly 'meh' way....
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:48, Reply)
I like Echoes
in part because when really stoned it goes well with the end weird bit of 2001: A space odyssey.

it also has sonar noises. must remember to use those in my stuff.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:50, Reply)
My father does an incredible sonar impression
His 'I'm in a WWII submarine' routines were captivating to us as children. Up there with his 'polar explorer' one, replete with howling wind noises.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:52, Reply)
sounds excellent

(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:54, Reply)
An internationally recognised scientist and philosopher
....with the sense of humour of a naughty five-year-old.

He's unique to say the least.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:59, Reply)
sounds it
explains why you are like you are a bit though ;-)

I'm the offspring of a lawyer and an arty beatnik...
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:06, Reply)
Ha - never really thought about it but you may have a point.
The grumpiness is all my own work, though.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:22, Reply)
I'm not that arsed about old Dave either way
But Absolute Beginners makes me all dreamy and goosbumpy and weepy but happy.
And I bet his fans hate it. I dunno why, but I bet they do.
But I love it. There.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:49, Reply)
Whut? Yeah I'm not a big lover of Absolute beginners to be honest.

(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:56, Reply)
I didn't think you would
I think most people who like him would think Absolute beginners was pap.
I like it because it has that chord progression that takes you with it, like old-fashioned pop or Phil Spector or something.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:00, Reply)
(in stupid Bowie voice) 'I absolutely hate it.'

(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:01, Reply)
As if I thought for a minute YOU'D like it
It's too sweet and quixotic for you, you old git.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:07, Reply)
Fack orf
There are more sweet and quixotic moments on Tractor's first LP than in the whole pretentious career of David Jones, the cheesy solo artist, sorry I meant r&b howler, sorry I meant trippy spaceman, sorry I meant theatrical mime performer, sorry I mean plastic soul artiste, sorry I meant 80s MOR stadium bender, sorry I meant JUNGLIST MASSIVE.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:12, Reply)
I'm not even a fan of Bowie
so save your bile, you toad!
And shut up about tractors man. They're all stuck in the snow.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:13, Reply)
Never!

(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:14, Reply)
So wait a second, you can't even appreciate The man who fell to Earth or Labyrinth?

(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:16, Reply)
both films are fine
Actually The Man Who Fell to Earth is an excellent film, but the accompanying music is utter tosh for both, if you ask me. Which, in fairness, you did.

My little sister LOVES Labyrinth - it has an innocent charm to it, and the MC Escher bits are visually excellent, but Dave's gay songs severely jeopardise my enjoyment.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:20, Reply)
Nope, I just meant the films on this occasion
It's good to know that your hatred for the Bowie doesn't hamper your visual pleasure.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:23, Reply)
For me the highest pinnacle of his career
is without doubt the 'Dancing in the Streets' video he did with Mick Jagger. Possibly the funniest piece of TV EVER.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:37, Reply)
Haha, I haven't seen that in ages

(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 15:28, Reply)
I don't like everything he's ever done, for example I hate the tin machine phase he went through
But there are a few albums that I hold dear.
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 13:55, Reply)
Tin Machine were especially awful.
One band-wagon too far, even for that coat-tailer extraordinaire...
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 14:04, Reply)
My photography lecturer made us watch a video of them playing at Phoenix festival. I'd been there at the time and walked off in disgust
Not impressed.
