A good friend of mine moved to Scotland and we lost touch
I tried the various searches and hoped he would pop up on facebook.

He did. On a memorial page, he had been walking his dog and been hit by a car and killed. I was really upset at this news but my wife ever the sympathetic one said "Why are you upset? He's been dead a year."
