of fix it tickets for things like a brake light. You get it fixed, go down the cop shop, pay $10 for administrative costs and police inspection and you don't even have to go to your court date - the police just file that the issue has been fixed.

Here they make whoever was driving pay the court costs- which in this case was $61.
Fucksocks.

A few years ago when I was illegal, I was driving on my English learners permit (they were made of paper and it doesn't say anything about it being a learners permit - now they have similar drivers licenses to us), got cited for driving without a license.
Took the permit into court, wasn't asked for proof of immigration status (it's only the Mexicans they ask), showed my learners permit and the judge dismissed the case. He showed the permit to the baliff who said "looks legitimate to me".
Didn't have to pay a penny.
(Now of course, I am legal).

And I will take him up on it as he's employed and I'm not.
Gotta say, though, it was entertaining to see the strange cross-section of humanity that filtered through there. We had an almost incomprehensible Asian woman, an almost incomprehensible black girl (the judge had to ask her to repeat herself because her bumble-lip ghetto speak was so bad), a woman who had to go to her car three times to look for her proof of insurance and kept bringing in the wrong things, and a parade of knuckle-dragging mouth breathers. How the judge kept a straight face is beyond me. He seemed genuinely relieved when someone spoke in clear English.

If we had a system like that here West Yorkshire Police could have pulled every Toyota/Honda/Audi in Bradford and got the country out of recession a lot sooner...
