Revisiting the musical past, been there this weekend too.
What a strange country it is...
In my instance it's been down to getting a marantz cd player t'other week and finally ditching the Sony discman i have been tolerating since god were a child. Or at least the late 80's.
Did a true comparative test cd v. Vinyl using the blue nile's "a walk across the rooftops" which I've had on vinyl since it was released way back in '83, cd of which I got about three years ago cos i
didn't want to set up the Linn LP12 where we were living at the time.
The vinyl (as i had hoped) came out on top, but only just...
AAA wins over AAD ;-)
I feel finally justiflidded in hanging on to the old tech...

I chucked a load of old tapes about two years ago only to recently discover there is now the tech to copy tape to MP3 - I would have enjoyed doing that.

You know those banana boxes? One cassette box on edge deep, three wide and about thirty two long, which makes ninety six cassettes per banana box times eleven boxes equals one thousand and fifty six cassette boxes minus maybe five percent lost or stolen or plain fucked cassettes equals about a thousand cassettes (almost exclusively ninety minute bar a few "casingles" ffs probably works out at about thirteen hundred or so hours.
Which must be getting on for the thick end of two months straight.

Why the fuck did you have to get me thinking about considering the possibility of converting it all to mp3.
I am now obsessed with this thought...

Edit: I should point out that those there boxes are stacked up in the corner of the not quite finished loft conversion two stories up from where I'm sat right now with Kristin Hersh "Sky Motel" playing, just finishing a bowl of gerkin soup. I should be okay if I throw a blanket over them...
