To answer a couple of your questions, actually, she probably never thought you'd go to the extent of calling the venue to check up on her. That sounds a bit obsessive and stalkery to me. Check your insecurity and ask why it's bugged you so much. From here it doesn't seem like such a big deal.

I appreciate the honesty. If only everyone was like this. I know I should man-up but I guess I'm having trouble accepting how unnecessarily rude people can be. I'd never do this to someone.

I'm supposed to be leafleting but it's pissing it down outside
so I'm doing finance spreadsheets and contact databases and cutting up more leaflets. Exciting times.
