this is just a suggestion
but why not email her a Coast dress and tell her that's what you're getting if she won't be there? Then maybe say to your dad you've changed your mind back to the Frieda dress

Nah, she'll demand evidence.
I'm just gonna pay myself. I was going to do that anyway and whenever I take anything from her I pay for it. And she is the purse strings, so although it's me dad's dosh she has the final say.

that is very frustrating
go for the nice dress anyway and have a fantastic time instead. Some people just need to be in control all the time
